They are on exhibit with their mother in the Himalayan Highlands, which received the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Exhibit Award for outstanding design in 1987. WCS’s Bronx Zoo is a world leader in snow leopard husbandry and participates in the Species Survival Plan, a cooperative breeding program designed to enhance the genetic viability of animal populations in zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Bronx Zoo has had more snow leopard births – over 70 – than any other zoo in North America and was the first zoo in the United States to exhibit the big cats in 1903.

    Army Sergeant Keith Howse attended Brookfield Zoo's 2:30 p.m. dolphin presentation today to surprise his two young daughters, Nataja and Jorja, who he has not seen for almost a year. For the past eight months, Sergeant Howse has been stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Sergeant Howse's daughters were called from the stands to assist in a special encounter with one of the dolphins during the presentation. Through protection and study of gharials in the Chambal Sanctuary, scientists now have a better understanding of how these evolutionarily unique crocodilians use their environment and the threats they face. Additionally, the project has identified key feeding, nesting and breeding areas for the species. The eight gharials in JungleWorld were hatched at the MCBT and brought to the Bronx Zoo as part of the ongoing conservation partnership.

http://www.centralparkzoo.com The WCS Central Park Zoo Brown Bears exhibit is the new home for two adult female grizzlies, Betty and Veronica, who were rescued in 1995 and brought to the Bronx Zoo. Betty originally came to New York from Montana and Veronica from Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Both had become too accustomed to humans, and local authorities considered them a danger to people. WCS’s Central Park and Bronx Zoos are currently home to nine rescued brown bears: two that came to New York in 1995; four that arrived in 2009; and three that were rescued in late 2013. While all the bears that came to WCS did so under different circumstances, they share a common story: their situation resulted from of a series of negative interactions with people. WCS saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education, and inspiring people to value nature. VISION: WCS envisions a world where wildlife thrives in healthy lands and seas, valued by societies that embrace and benefit from the diversity and integrity of life on earth. To achieve our mission, WCS, based at the Bronx Zoo, harnesses the power of its Global Conservation Program in more than 60 nations and in all the world’s oceans and its five wildlife parks in New York City, visited by 4 million people annually. WCS combines its expertise in the field, zoos, and aquarium to achieve its conservation mission.
